T.D. Jakes Presents: FOLLOW THE STAR
Words: joe538.com

What is Christmas? Depending on who you ask, Christmas can mean a multitude of things. To some, Christmas is a time to share with family and friends. For some, Christmas brings to mind images of a chubby, bearded man in a red suit. To others, Christmas is just a day off work. But no matter how you try to reason, Christmas isn’t really Christmas without Jesus Christ. After all, He is Christmas. Not only is he the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in the manger, He is the star that outshined every other star that fateful night, leading the wise men and the shepherds to come worship. Two thousand years later, His law is still love, and His Gospel is still peace.

It is in this same spirit that Dexterity Sounds, in a joint venture with EMI Gospel, is proud to release T.D. Jakes presents Follow The Star. More than just another collection of Christmas songs, Follow The Star is a unique musical journey that celebrates the true spirit of the Holiday Season through a rich tapestry of diverse sounds.

Comprised of traditional arrangements, contemporary interpretations and newly written material, Follow The Star is certain to be a Holiday classic for years to come. “Follow The Star reminds me of what Christmas is all about,” says Bishop T.D. Jakes. “This album is a collection of my favorite Christmas stories and songs that have touched my heart and shaped my life. These vivid childhood memories and deeply personal experiences come alive on this album and illuminate the significance of the season.”

Woven throughout dramatic spoken-word interludes from Bishop Jakes is a vibrant assortment of Holiday music and reflections from some of Gospel Music’s most beloved artists including Smokie Norful, MaryMary, Beverly Crawford, Aaron Neville, Darwin Hobbs, Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers, The Blind Boys of Alabama and more.

Among the many highlights on the 13-track project are a breathtaking rendition of “O, Holy Night” by Stellar Award winning and best-selling Gospel sensation Smokie Norful, a roof-raising delivery of “Joy To The World” from the ‘Sweetheart of Gospel’, Beverly Crawford and the funky bounce of “Go Tell It” from Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers. “Some of the greatest artists and singers have brought together lyrics and messages that are uplifting to the soul,” says Jakes.

Urban Gospel’s favorite siblings, MaryMary, come to the party with just enough bump and groove to spice up any Holiday celebration. Their original composition, “Gift Of Love”, encourages listeners to not be so intent on giving tangible gifts that they forget to give love, the greatest gift of all.

In their trademark elegant and majestic fashion, popular vocal trio Cook, Dixon & Young (formerly known as The Three Mo’ Tenors) contribute the stunning “3 Wise Men Medley”. With a heavenly intonation, Aaron Neville gives an angelic rendition of the classic “The First Noel”. Bringing along the legendary Mavis Staples, the equally legendary Blind Boys of Alabama deliver their special brand of soulful quartet energy to the rollicking “Born In Bethlehem”.

From the swelling orchestral backdrop and smooth jazz feel of the title track to the jubilant finale of the “3 Wise Men Medley”, T.D. Jakes presents Follow The Star is a musical gift for all audiences. “I encourage everyone to use it as a ministry tool for people who need to be uplifted during this season,” comments Jakes. “I believe that God is going to use Follow The Star to bring them out of the darkness and into the light.”
